Cape Cod Music Educators Association
CCMEA is a collective group of music educators that are devoted
to offering young musicians the opportunity to experience music
with their peers across the Cape.
Before 1960, Robert Frazier (Barnstable) and Dennis Moratta
(Falmouth) combined ensembles in an effort to showcase great
musicianship and mutual respect for each other's district. The
rehearsal and concert were held on a single Saturday.
Some time after, additional Cape school directors were included
and each music director from those programs conducted a
selection at the concert.
Since then, the All-Cape Music Festival has matured into an Audition Festival held in the fall and a three-day concert festival held in the following winter.
Judges are invited to formally assess over 500 individuals each fall at a Host site designated by the Board of Directors that now consist of Elementary, Middle and High School Band, Orchestra, Choir and General Music teachers of the Cape and Islands.
Concert Festival
Guest conductors are invited each year from across the country and from a variety of experience levels such as Universities, Colleges, Regional and local schools and share their talents and ideas with our Cape and Islands music students.
Students are selected for the various performing ensembles based on achievement scores at the Audition Festival.
Rehearsals are held on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday Morning of the Concert weekend. In the afternoon, a concert consisting of the Concert Band, Orchestra, Mixed Choir and Treble Chorus show off the talents of these fine young musicians.
